Totally surrounded by stacks of unorganized items. I have a little unruly pile in each room of my new place.

I moved in with my partner to a new apartment about two weeks ago (the reason I skipped August’s faves) and we are still working on getting everything sorted into its new spot. Whenever I move, the first boxes I pack up are all my precious decorations and the last boxes to be opened are those same boxes— every time it’s such a delight to see all the things that make a strange place, mine.

I’ve been absorbed by thoughts of decorating/organizing this new home, so most of my inspo is dedicated to that this month:

✹ Cafe Curtains

Been obsessing over a cute cafe curtain moment. We have some in our kitchen, but I think I’m going to have to make more for the dining room, too. I love how light & whimsical they feel.

Update: I made more cafe curtains for the house! They’re plain white ones, but they make the room feel more complete.

✹ Earthy Bauhaus Color Palettes

The two of us moving in together means combining two aesthetics together. Luckily, most of our stuff blends well together! Combined, our look is like an earthy bauhaus color palette. Think: REI meets Anthropologie. It feels a little mid-century, a little eclectic, and most of all cozy.

✹ De-centering the TV in a living room

We took a new approach to our living room setup. Since we’re starting fresh, both of us talked about having a living room setup that didn’t totally revolve around the tv. We didn’t want it to be the first thing you see when you walk in, so we tucked it behind the wall of our foyer rather than putting it on top of the fireplace or somewhere more central. It’s a small shift that dramatically changed our living area. It feels more multi-purpose in there now.

✹ Setting up a TBR Bookshelf

Another thing we did in the living room was create a TBR book shelf! It’s near the couch with a big plant wall & reading lamp that is so inviting to lounge on and relax. Turns out when we have the books we want to read in our line of sight, we actually pick them up and read. Who knew. Some of those books are also on my digital TBR Shelf.

✹ Time keeping without my phone

I recently got a digital wristwatch again for the first time in years to help me keep track of time without getting tempted scroll. It’s a tiny secondhand gold casio watch from the 90s. It’s been so nice to have a simple screen that doesn’t give me more notifications than I want.

✹ Low tech/low cost DIY mini loom rugs

This past weekend I made a low-tech loom out of cardboard & crafted a tiny rug for our cat’s water bowl. This little thing brings me so much joy! I’m planning to make another one at some point and if I do, I’ll post a tutorial.

✹ Paper Lantern Lamps

Specifically, paper lamps in a bedroom! The overheads are pretty bright in our room, so having a soft, glowy, low light option for early mornings is critical. I thrifted this lovely lamp just before we moved into our space.

✹ Local handmade candles

The other day there was a tiny vender market around the corner from our place. I got a pumpkin spice candle from a local maker there, and it made our house smell so crazy good. I’m starting to feel more ready for crisp weather.
